The U.S. House of Representatives voted 277-130 on July 17 to extend the enhanced conservation easement tax incentive and make it permanent. The bill received overwhelming bipartisan support with a majority of Representatives listed as co-sponsors. The enhanced incentive provides positive terms for deductions for conservation easement donations.
Permanence for the enhanced tax incentive has been a long term goal of the land trust community which is actively supported by AOA. An op-ed supporting the incentive by Steve Fleegal, AOA’s Executive Director, was published in the Columbus Dispatch a couple of weeks ago – Click here to read the op-ed.
Thanks to all of our friends and associates who contacted the offices of our local area representatives who are supporting this bill. We are hopeful of a positive vote in the Senate in the near future.
