Help AOA Protect Hocking Canal Lock No. 8
This is a work event. AOA will offer a canal visitation event next year for friends, supporters and neighbors who wish to get a closer look at the lock and other Hocking Canal features conserved by AOA.
Time: Meet at 10:00 a.m. We will plan to be on site from 10 till 2 or till done. Feel free to come at any time and stay as long as you like.
What to Bring: Tools such as shovels, hand pruners or loppers if you have them. AOA will provide gloves. Muck boots or waterproof footwear of some type is desirable as the canal bottom is pretty wet and mucky. Dress in clothes that can get dirty. Drinks, snacks, and/or lunch of your choice if staying past noon.
Location: We will meet at the lock which is next to the home of Ronnie and Rita Williams which is a bit north of Sugar Grove. Enter at the Columbia Gas substation on the east side of the Williams property, adjacent to the Ream Cemetery. The entry drive is located at 2685 Horns Mill Road SE, Lancaster, OH 43130 – see Google map link.
Parking: Parking space is limited on the site. Park in the grassy areas in the back of the lot along the canal ROW. Please do not drive into the Williams’ yard. AOA volunteers will direct parking.
Weather: This event will be postponed in the event of snowy or freezing daytime weather. We will post event status information on the AOA Facebook page. If conditions require, we may also email everyone who opens the event details through our Constant Contact email distribution. Call AOA (614.721.2656) if you need to check on conditions or the event status.
