Hike at Waterloo Wildlife Area expansion project. This addition of nearly 1,000 acres was AOA’s first large land acquisition nearly ten years ago. Purchased in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife and several other conservation partners, it is now managed as a Wildlife Area.
Hear the story of a frantic campaign and nail-biting land auction. We’ll take a long uphill hike via an old logging road to the top of the ridge, and then hike the top of the ridge for scenic vistas of the area. We’ll see how the site is recovering after logging, which occurred prior to our purchase in 2005.
Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 356 and King Hollow Trail, where there is plenty of space for parking. For more information, contact Brian Blair at 740.332.1025.
The Waterloo hike and most other AOA events are free and open to the public. This event will be held rain or shine – so please come prepared and dress appropriately for the weather and hiking on slopes.
